The escape of King Charles I (1625-49) from Hampton Court Palace in November 1647. In 1647, after six years of fighting, it was clear that King Charles I and his Royalist army had lost the Civil War. The King was captured by his Parliamentarian enemies, and moved to Hampton Court Palace. He managed to escape via the River Thames, and fled to the Isle of Wight. The Parliamentarians soon re-captured him, and he was executed outside the Banqueting House in Whitehall on 30 January 1649
