Anne Messel (later Parsons) was previously married to Ronald Armstrong-Jones, with whom she had a daughter and a son, before she married Michael Parsons, 6th Earl of Rosse on 19 September 1935. The couple had two sons. Her eldest son Anthony Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowden (from her previous marriage with Ronald Armstrong-Jones) married Princess Margaret. Madame Yevonde creates a picture-in-a-picture-like scenery for this portrait with the Countess of Rosse sitting in a frame while her daughter Susan stands in front of her with a little flower bouquet in her hands.
