The monastery has a square plan, with a post-Norman west range, a south range which most likely dates to the 13th century, and a post-Reformation addition to the north-west end of the south range. St Paul's Church forms the north range of the site, and the south range has a single round-headed opening. St Paul's Church was originally two separate churches, and part of the monastery of St Paul, with the foundations laid in 681-682. The eastern part of the church is Saxon, with a Norman tower in the centre, and a nave to the west, which was rebuilt in 1782. The tower is slim with a paired belfry opening under a single round-headed arch.
