March - the Ch?teau de Lusignan, 15th century, (1939). 'Mars - Le Chateau De Lusignan'. Agricultural activities: ploughing with oxen, pruning grape vines, a shepherd with sheep, and filling a sack with grain for sowing. The winged dragon above the tower on the right represents the protective spirit M?lusine. The ch?teau at Lusignan in western France was a favorite residence of Jean, Duc de Berry. A page from the "Tr?s Riches Heures du Duc de Berry", a book of hours produced for Jean, Duc de Berry and commissioned from the Limbourg brothers. Made between c1412 and 1489, and regarded as one of the finest examples of European manuscript illumination, it is held at the Musee Cond?, Chantilly, France. Published in "Verve - No. 7, Vol. II".
