Estonia; Padise village; Padise Manor (Padise m鮥s); restored. In 1997 Olaf Thomas von Ramm and cousine Clas Marten von Ramm took the chance to re-buy the 1844 built manor house Padise; to restore it and to build up a country hotel with conference facilities. Thomas von Ramm got Padise; in those times also named Padis and Padis monastery (German: Kloster Padis); in 1622; from Swedish king Gustav II Adolf. The von Ramm family owned the manor house with estate and ruins of Padise monastery; until 1920. After 1945; the manor house was used as school and as factory; until 1991. History of Padise monastery dates back to 1220; when cisterciian monks from Dunam黱de came in for christianization of Estonian people. Their home base was Kloster Stolpe (Stolpe monastery) near city of Anklam in German region of Vorpommern. In 1305; all cistercian possessions went to the Teutonic order who came in here; in 1310. Starting in 1317; the monastery was fortified and became castle like. But in the Estonian upriisng on 23rd of April; 1343 (St George`s Night); 28 monks and knights were killed; the monastery burned down. Rebuilding started after 1370; in 1400; the moanstery was one of the most powerful along the shores of Eastern Baltic Sea. With the end of Teutonic Order; the monastery closed; in 1559. Sweden came in; in 1561. In 1576; Russian troops conquered the castle; but Swedish troops advanced again successfully; in 1580.
