Ireland; Co. Donegal; village of Burt: Burt Roman Catholic Chapel (also: St. Aengus`Church Burt); designed by local architect Liam McCormick in the 1960s; inspired by nearby ancient Grianan of Aileach. The church won the prestigious RIAI Triennial Gold Medal in 1971; only a few years after its completion. The building was declared Ireland's 鈥楤uilding of the Century' (20th century); in the late 1990s. As well; the architect of the church got European Awards. It is inspired by bronze age built Grianan of Aileach; a ringfort 2 km off Burt; which is also called Grian谩n Ailigh; anglicised also Greenan Ely or Greenan Fort. The hillfort atop the 244 m high Greenan Mountain near Burt dates most probably back to 1700 BC. The story of this so called "sun castle" is heavily present in irish mythology; legends; folk tales and history. it is t is one of only five Irish locations marked on Ptolemy of Alexandria's 2nd century (around 150 AD) map of the world.
