Ireland; Co. Mayo; Clare Island: Clare Island Lighthouse; only two-towered lighthouse in Ireland. First lighthouse Tower was built by the Marquis (Marquees) of Sligo in 1806; but in September 1813; a fire destroyed its lantern. The new lantern tower was built until the end of 1818. In 1834 the tower was struck by lightning. It was in use until 1965 and fell into ruins. After some decades; a German physician from Hamburg bought all and restored it perfectly. Today; it is an upmarket guest house.
