An engraving depicting a sectional view of a house built by Edward John May, for Dr Hogg, which was heated and ventilated by hot air. Fresh air was drawn in through the basement, and hot pipes were used to heat the house through gratings in the floors downstairs and by vents in the upstairs rooms. The flume for the kitchen chimney provided heat to create a draught for extracting exhausted air. Edward John May (1853-1941) an English architect. Dated 19th century.
