Pierre Weiss (1865-1940), French physicist. Weiss is best known for his work on magnetism, particularly ferromagnetism. Weiss discovered the relationship between magnetism and crystal symmetry and proposed the division of magnetic materials into domains, known as Weiss, or magnetic, domains, in which the magnetisation is orientated in the same direction.
