Reconstruction of a male Homo antecessor hominid. H. antecessor fossils were discovered in 1994 and 1995 at the Gran Dolina and Sima del Elefante sites at Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain. They are the oldest Homo fossils found in Europe. H. antecessor lived in Western Europe between 1.2 million and 800,000 years ago. It is thought that an adult male was around 160 to 180 centimetres tall and weighed around 90 kilograms.
