With the discovery of iron, the manufacture of instruments, tools and weapons in bronze metal declined. Iron opened a new era for the future of humankind. It is cheap, hard, easy to work and in its natural state iron ore is easy to find. Hunting was carried on by means of missile weapons such as the bow and the thonged javelin. The advantage of the fast-flying light thonged javelin was its high precision. The arrow heads were made of iron or bone. The head of the javelin depicted is based on those found in the Lacustrine Settlement of La T鋝e (Neuch漮el). Here they are shown hunting wild boar and other animals.
