Satellite image showing the A-68 family of icebergs. Icebergs A-68G, A-68H and A-68I broke away from iceberg A-68A, once the world's largest iceberg. At the end of July 2017, iceberg A-68A split from the Larsen C ice shelf in Antarctica and has since split into multiple, smaller icebergs. The disintegration of iceberg A-68A means it is no longer an environmental threat to the nearby island of South Georgia. Scientists were concerned that A-68A could have anchored off the coast of the island, disrupting wildlife. Animals, such as penguins and seals, would have had to detour around the iceberg to hunt.
