Toppled column drums from the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Athens. A typical Greek column showing the characteristic vertical hollow grooves known as fluting was created using multiple such drums. The column is wider at the bottom than at the top, because its entasis (convex curve), beginning a third of the way up, imperceptibly makes the column slightly more slender at the top.
