Illustration of gamma rays flooding the detectors of NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (FGST, left) and Neil Gehrels SWIFT Observatory (right). In January 2019, the two satellites detected a pair of explosions that released high-energy gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Fermi and SWIFT observed a spike in gamma-rays in the constellation Fornax. Just 50 seconds later, Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) telescopes were then able to focus on the location of the GRB known as GRB 190114C and capture the highest energy light from a gamma-ray burst.
