Side view of the cicada (Tibicina haematodes) resting on the stem of a herbaceous plant in a corfiot olive grove. Sometimes known as the Vineyard Cicada it is a member of the Hemiptera insect order. The larvae can spend may years living underground before emerging and moulting into the adult form. The adults song is species specific. Photographed in Corfu, Greece, in June.
