Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. View over the Lindsay Ranch in the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge, Denver, Colorado, USA. This ranch operated until 1951 when the government bought it to construct a nuclear weapons manufacturing plant, which caused the area to become extensively polluted with plutonium. The US Fish and Wildlife Service opened much of the site to visitors in late 2018. However, the central area, where production of plutonium triggers for nuclear weapons occurred, remains closed.
