Codex Quetzalecatzin. This rare coloured Mesoamerican manuscript was produced by the Aztecs (Nahuatl) in what is now Mexico in 1593. The document describes land ownership and of the 'de Leon' family, and their descent from a leading ruler in the region in 1480, named Lord-11 Quetzalecatzin. The codex includes symbols for rivers, roads and pathways, as well as hieroglyphic writing. The document also shows Spanish churches and place names, showing the integration of the conquering and indigenous cultures.
