Giuseppe Fiorelli (1823-1896), Italian archaeologist. He is best known for supervising excavations at Pompeii and helping to preserve the city. Fiorelli created a technique, now known as the Fiorelli process, that used plaster casts to preserve the ash-covered, hollow bodies of those that died in the Vesuvius volcano eruption of 79AD. Print from 1899.
