Editorial use only Construction of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP), Greifswald, Germany. When it was built the Wendelstein 7-X was the world largest stellarator type fusion device. Its objective was to investigate the suitability of this type of reactor for a power plant. To do this it will produce plasma discharges lasting up to 30 minutes to demonstrate continuous operation. The main assembly of Wendelstein 7-X concluded in 2014, the first plasma was produced on 10th December 2015. Photographed in 2011.
