491430 Crinoline Group: Musicians, manufacturer Meissen Porcelain Factory, Germany, c.1737 (porcelain) by K瓣ndler, Johann Joachim (1706-75) (after); h:20.00 w:29.20 d:16.70 cm; Cleveland Museum of Art, OH, USA; (add.info.: Kaendler joined the Meissen factory in 1731 and became chief of its modeling department in 1733. In 1736 he began to produce the small figures and groups representing characters from the theater and contemporary life, thereby creating the European style of porcelain figure-modeling. Kaendler\'s figures are vivacious, and frequently satiric in intention. This group is an early example of his skill in depicting elegantly dressed figures from the world of the court around him. ); Gift of Rosenberg & Stiebel, Inc.; German, out of copyright.
