473923 Landscape with Figures (ink, pencil & w/c on paper) by Waller, Charles D. (18th/19th century); 46.5x30.4 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: Charles Waller was an artillery officer in the army, and painted landscape watercolours in his spare time. This imaginary scene is in the Pastoral landscape style, which often featured rural workers in picturesquely tattered clothing. Waller first painted thin washes of shades of greyish blue, green and brown. He then drew details in black, using both brush and pen and ink. White areas in the sky have been created by leaving the paper bare, but the man\'s shirt is painted in opaque white watercolour to make the figure stand out. ); 穢 Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums; British, out of copyright.
