473997 View from Longstone Lighthouse, 1838 (b/c, pencil & w/c on paper) by Parker, Henry Perlee (1795-1873); 20.1x30.9 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: In 1838, the \'Forfarshire\' steam ship was wrecked on the Farne Islands. The survivors were rescued by Grace Darling and her father William, Keeper of Longstone Lighthouse. Grace became a celebrity, and soon after the incident Parker and Carmichael travelled to the Darling\'s home to record the heroic event. They stayed at the lighthouse for a week, sketching the surroundings and making portrait studies.
