491487 Lamp, late 300s (silver) (see also 491488 & 491489) by Byzantine, (4th century); h:9.20 w:16.00 d:7.00 cm; Cleveland Museum of Art, OH, USA; (add.info.: Numerous oil lamps of various shapes and sizes have survived from the late Roman and early Byzantine periods. Most served a basic utilitarian function and were plainly fashioned from clay or bronze. However, a few more elaborate examples, such as this one, have survived in silver.
