499605 Rhyton: The Buffalo-Slayer Goddess, c.600-700 (silver) by Sasanian School; h:19.1 wt:702 grams cm; Cleveland Museum of Art, OH, USA; (add.info.: Because the woman\'s widely set, heavy-lidded eyes suggest Indian facial types, she may well represent a Sasanian goddess who was associated with the cult of the Indian god Siva. Known in India as Durga, Siva\'s wife, and in Iran as Nana, she decapitated a demon who appeared in buffalo form. Both this and the horse rhyton were found crushed flat in tombs. Their reconstruction took many months to complete. ); Leonard C. Hanna, Jr. Fund; Iranian, out of copyright.
