Reverse T3 thyroid hormone, molecular model. Reverse T3 (rT3) is the least abundant of a trio of metabolic hormones. A small amount of rT3 is made by the thyroid gland, but most of it is formed by enzymatic rearrangement of T3. Atoms are colour-coded: carbon is black; hydrogen is white; iodine is purple; nitrogen is blue; oxygen is red.
