5052663 Stair-rails, 4 St Barnabas\' Square, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "(Mid-winter) The inclusion of this print is on account of the stair-rails. At each turn of the stairs, the baluster had a square return, [sketch] and I noticed the same style of hand-rail in several of the houses in the Coffee Palace block; \'Bull\'s Head\' Inn, \'Ship\' Inn, Coffee Palace, & Mrs Kelly\'s No.13 New Bond St., to mention a few. The big houses mentioned on the Quay-side & in Fairy Ground, would be little different in date to this house dated 1782. And a style in stair-rails would persist over a considerable period anyway, one might suppose. Board ( T + G?) partitions in most of these old houses, I notice."); by Manx National Heritage .
