5921019 Sergeant of Foot Guards ammunition pouch, post-1855 by British School, (19th century); National Army Museum, London; (add.info.: Sergeant of Foot Guards ammunition pouch, post-1855. Soldiers would have worn the ammunition pouch resting on the right hip. It was either attached to a cross belt, or, after the new waistbelt replaced the uncomfortable cross belts, attached to a separate pouch belt. Externally this ammunition pouch is similar to the Grenadier Guards ammunition pouch (NAM 1963-10-332), apart from the badge on the front which is missing, indicated by two holes where it would have been attached. Although it is stamped inside with the War Department mark, ?WD?, which dates it after 1855, the basic design and dimensions are very similar to the Grenadier Guards pouch which is dated pre-1856. The interior of the pouch is fitted with a tin tray, divided into three compartments. Two remain open while the third possesses a hinged lid, possibly for percussion caps.); by National Army Museum .
