Illustration of long chains of Finegoldia magna (formerly Peptostreptococcus magnus) bacteria. It is a Gram-positive, anaerobic, coccus bacterium that is pathogenic to humans. It can exist as a single coccus, build pairs or form long chains. F magna invades mucous membranes, but can colonise the skin too, where it causes severe abscesses as well as generalised necrotising soft-tissue-infections. Over time, these pathogens develop an increasing resistance to medication.
