Photograph, World War Two, Far East (1941-1945). Over 100,000 Japanese prisoners captured in Malaya and Singapore were sent to Rampang Island as they could not be accommodated elsewhere. Rempang is about 25 miles south-west of Singapore. The prisoners were provided with tools to construct accommodation, a road and landing jetty.
