She Drives The Baker's Cart -- Northbridge housewives have their bread delivered by a smiling 23-year-old girl clad in shorts, shirt and sandshoes. The girl is Betty Randolph - a hairdresser by trade. For the past ten months she has been delivering bread to more than 300 homes in a horse-drawn cart to save her fare to Europe. In six weeks' time she and her fiance, artist Harry Flugelman, will fulfil an ambition and sail for Italy by the Toscana. Flugelman, a member of the ex- servicemen's Strath Art Group, has been working 16 hours a day as a laborer and cleaner to save up his fare. March 18, 1951.
