The Newest Members Of The Empire. A battle ends Lobster islands 'Go British.' A money-spinning island is Marmoutier, one of a cluster known as the Erehouse. Money-spinning, too, are the islands of the Minquiers group. Both groups are near the French coast... They are rich in lobsters and prawns. On them a man can earn ?80 in a good week's fishing. And now, by a decision of the International Court of Justice at The Hague, both groups of islands are British. Britain's claim against France for sovereignty over the group dates back to William the Conqueror. November 19, 1953. (Photo by Daily Mail Contract Picture).
