Denham Court Girl's School -- The washroom. Home Office Schools or Approved Schools are intended for the education and training of boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 17 sent to them by the Courts either was young offenders or as needing care and protection. The schools are approved and inspected by the Home Office and costs are borne in equal proportions by the Exchequer and the local authorities out of local rates. In 1945 there were about 150 Approved Schools. These photographs were taken at Denham Court, a Senior Girls' School run by the Middlesex Education Authority. The girls are trained in gardening, dressmaking, tailoring and domestic subjects - there is also a continuation school for general education. The school takes girls aged 15 - 17 on admission.
