What a welcome sight for heavy eyelids and tred bodies of unemployed men who will be sheltered each night on this transformed pier at the foot of 25th street Andeast river. Here, until the unemployment situation is abated, 1500 men will be able to find rest after sundown, while during the day from five to eight thousand men will be given hot and nourishing food. To Insure warmth the pier is heated by electricity. The pier has been renamed the municipal lodging house annex being operated by the department of public welfare. October 22, 1930.
