The Bones Of Steel - Tom and Celia Bones visit Edward Peck (Celia's father) in hospital at Scunthorpe. Edward Peck works on a steam crane at the Frodingham Steel "Works. He has been there since 1907 has the outstancling record of never so much as bruising a man's little finger. His motto is: "Think before you get there". In 1912 he helped in the building of the first steam-digger. In the opinion of Mr. Peck the best development in the steel industry was the use of the overhead crane. "Handling steam cranes to move red hot ingots about was killing work", he said. July 11, 1951. (Photo by Central Office Of Information Photograph).
