The ?14,000 jet-propelled speed boat White Hawk, in which Mr. Frank Hanning-Lee, on naval officer, of Chelsea, London, and his wife Stella hope to rapture the the world's water speed record for Britain, dived briefly under the surface of the lake in a mishap during a trial run on Windermera, Mr. Hanning-Lee was piloting the boat when it was struck by side-wash from a pleasure boat. Water entered the air intake and the White Hawk dived nose first, filling with water. The cockpit went under water but the craft soon reappeared. Pleasure boats dashed to the assistance of White Hawk, which was towed 500 yards to the shore to be beached only superficial damage, and Mr. Hanning-Lee expects that the hull will have dried out in a couple of days.
