Haven For Artists -- The "Scalinateela" is a stairway with 660 steps, leading from the beach to the top of the rocky hill on which Positano is perched. Here, fisherman Luigi Vischitello proudly explains how the Italian song writer Murolo wrote a song about the "Scalinateela." Listening are American writer Elizabeth Lomax (left) of New York and Mrs. Gregory Eskate of riverside, California. Miss Lomax came to Positano to stay for a week, but she has been here for more than four months now and her daughter is going to the local village school. December 03, 1954. (Photo by United Press).
