Trucks Blast Rips Holland Tunnel. Debris Litters the Holland Tunne's east bound tube, May 13, following an explosion of drums of chemicals on a truck. The explosion was touches off when the truck (center) caught fire near the New Jersey end of the Tunnel. Flames spread to other trucks and the under water highway was filled with carbon disulphide fumes. Firemen wearing gas masks brought the fire under control. May 13, 1949.
