With a damp brush carefully apply mascara to the upper lid (to the bottom lid also if you're very fair), avoiding the "beaded" look and a too theatrical effect. Try to keep your eyes open until the mascara dries, but if you always have difficulty with smudges, powder very lightly between two applications then dab with cottonwool. It's fool-proof.
