Sable antelope (Hippotragus niger) inhabit the southern savannah of Africa, in herds of up to 25 females, numerous young and a dominant male. Males and females look the same until the age of three, when males grow a dark brown coat and their antlers become longer and curved. Females are light brown and their antlers do not exceed one metre in length. They are one of the largest antelopes (females are only slightly smaller and lighter than males) and can weigh up to 240 kilograms and reach a height of 140 centimetres.
