Shanghai, China - April 1982; Part of a series of my images of China in 1982, just after it had re-opened to the world. I was working in Hong Kong at the time, and was on the very first tour group to enter the country. It was full of professional photographers. Little did I know that, 20 years later, I would become one myself! The Bund or Waitan, seen here, is a busy waterfront area in central Shanghai facing the Huangpu River. Its buildings were allegedly modelled on the corresponding waterfront area of Liverpool.
