Edfu, Egypt - 1 December 2012. The beautiful and immaculately preserved temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, was built in the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC. It is located on the West Bank of the Nile. Here we see a fine carving of Horus adorning the main facade. Horus was one of the most significant ancient Egyptian deities who served many functions, most notably god of kingship and the sky. He is usually shown with the double crown of Egypt adorning his falcon head.
