Aswan, Egypt - 1 December 2010; The Temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual double temple with areas dedicated to two gods- Hathor and Horus. It was mainly constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty, 180-47 BCE, although some additions were later made during the Roman era. Here we see a beautiful carving of the Goddess Hathor. Hathor was one of the most popular and powerful of the gods of Egypt. She was goddess love, beauty, music, dancing, fertility, and pleasure, as well as the protector of women, though men also worshipped her. Kind of an ancient proto-feminist... The Ankh she is holding is the ancient symbol for life.
