Gold nanoparticles have been tested in vivo for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma and colon cancer with promising results. During the hyperthermia process, gold nanorods can cause membrane breakdown, which in turn enhances the permeability, kinetics, and the uptake of chemotherapeutic agents.
