Artemis I mission, conceptual illustration. Artemis I will be the first uncrewed mission test flight of NASA's Artemis program, which will return humans to the Moon. The Orion capsule (centre), launched by a Space Launch System rocket, will spend around three weeks in space, orbiting both the Earth and Moon, covering over 450,000 kilometres. This is longer and further than any spacecraft designed to carry humans has flown before. Artemis I is scheduled for launch on the 22nd of August 2022. The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024.
