Pokhara, Nepal - October 1984; Pokhara used to be famed as the small town where old hippies went to fade away... but it is so much more. It offers stunning views - like this - of Mount Annapurna. This was totally cloud-covered for three days when we were there - just this flash of the summit early one morning. Annapurna is a stunning massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal that includes one peak over 8,000 metres, thirteen peaks over 7,000 metres, and sixteen more over 6,000 metres. That's a LOT of big mountains. And they are notoriously difficult to climb. Annapurna I Main, shown here, is the tenth highest mountain in the world at 8,091 metres above sea level.
