Italy; Apulia; city of Barletta: Decorated side portal at main facade of Basilica Concattedrale di Santa Maria Maggiore; built from 1147 until 14th century; The apsis of the Concathedral was built after 1313; when Conte (Duke) Giovanni Pipino da Barletta and a noble woman from Barletta wanted it. Barletta Basilica was built in Romanesque style; from 1147 onwards; until 14th century. The cathedral is located on a ground that has an archeological underground structure with tombs; dating back to 4th and 3rd century BC. An early Christian church was built here; between 536 and 586 AD. A high medieval church and basilica was erected; after 862 AD. Further works were realized; in 16th century. Most important artefacts in the cathedral are the ciborium (12th century); the ambo; changed into pulpit in the 1950s; of 13th century; and further structures.
