Estonia; L滗ne-Viru County; Haljala municipality: Vihula Manor; miniature scale reproduction summer house of German writer Thomas Mann in sea resort village Nida (German: Nidden) on the Curonian Split on mini golf course of Vihula Manor; Vihula Manor is located in Lahemaa National Park and dates back to 1501. Danish Baron Hans von Lode was the first owner. Totally burned down in the Great Northern War 1700 - 1721; the estate went into the ownership of the German Baltic noble family Wekebrod and later into the hands of the von Helffreich family. In 19th century; Alexander Berend von Schubert (1810 - 1880) bought the estate in an auction and restored the old manor house. He as well installed a wind mill; a water mill; and a lake with Venice style bridges and boats. The new manor house was built 1892 by architect Friedrich Modi in an irregular style with neo-Renassance style elements. Today; Vihula Manor is a Danish-British owned Luxury Spa Hotel with around 20 buildings; Spa; a vintage car museum; an old coffee house; a palm tree house and further more. In Wolrd War II; it served as a school for German secret service Gestapo for espionage and counter insurgancy. After WW II; Vihula served as a seniors?home; until 1982; and a collective farm. Privatized in 1991; it was renovated; until 2012.
