Beijing (Peking); Dongcheng District; Temple of Heaven (also: Altar of Heaven): Hall of Prayer of Good Harvests; The Temple of Heaven (Chinese: Tiant醤) was constructed 1406 - 1420 during the reign of Yongle Emperor. The complex was extended in 16th century; during the reign of Jiajing Emperor. The temple area; during Boxer Rebellion; in 1900 was seat of the command of the occupying Eight Nation Alliance. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (Chinese: d鄎韉i鄋); also called Hall of harvest offerings (Chinese: q韓i醤di鄋) is located in the Northern part of the temple area. It is 36 m wide and 38 m high and stands on a circular marble terrasse (Chinese: yu醤qiu). It was mainly used in spring time by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to pray for good harvests. It burned down; in 1889 and was reconstructed; in the 1890s. In the Southern part of the imperial temple complex; there is the Imperial Vault of Heaven (Chinese: hu醤gqi髇gyu); surrounded by the circular Echo Wall (Chinese: hu韞inb?. Since 1998; the Temple of Heaven is part of UNESCO World Heritage.
