THREE-STRINGED INSTRUMENT (SAW SAM SAI) WITH THE MATCHING BOW (KAN CHAK) OF PRINCESS SIRIMA'S PROPERTY
Thailand. 19th/ 20th Century.

Ivory and gilt bronze; body made of a "girl's breast coconut" and wood; covered with goats or calfskin. Matching bow of hardwood; stringed with hair of a horse's tail. The triangular coconut is a rare mutation. This instrument is used in the Wong Khryang Sai-Ensemble. Length 119 cm. Condition B. Enclosed: Two-stringed instrument (saw u) made of ebony and ivory; covered with snakeskin.

Provenance:
According to the Dr. Schwend's records it has been acquired from the property of Princess Sirima Bangorn Abhakara (1904-1975).
