Strip of bobbin lace with a peony between two curved leaves; Strip of natural-colored Dutch bobbin lace. The repetitive and symmetrical pattern consists of a peony between two upwardly bending leaves; which spring from underneath the flower. The motifs are connected by a sparingly used irregular grid. The motifs are made in linen with openwork edges. The top and bottom are straight finished; with picots on one side. A darker thread runs through parts of the pattern; according to an apparently random pattern. This was probably caused during the coloring of the strip; whereby the dye is absorbed better by some threads than by others.; anonymous; Antwerp (possibly); c. 1685 - c. 1699; linen (material); bobbin lace; l 217 cm x w 2.5 cm x; 6.5 cm
